The first fly-in of the season will be held at the Excelsior Springs Memorial Airport on Saturday, June 6th from 7:30 to 10:30am. A brief meeting for the Northwest Missouri Chapter of the Antique Airplane Association will follow. Proceeds from the fly-in will go directly to fund the Chapter’s annual scholarship in memory of two longtime supporters of the Excelsior Springs Airport and founding members of the NW MO AAA – Barb Kirkpatrick and Don Sharp. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving youth pursuing an aviation-related degree in college. Full information on this scholarship will be available at the fly-in, and the scholarship application will be posted on this website very soon. We’d love to have you join us and enjoy pancakes, for your at-will donation toward this wonderful cause! Download the PDF flyer here.
Saturday, August 16th marks the date for the 14th annual BBQ & Fly-In on the River at the Excelsior Springs Airport (3EX). Pancake breakfast served from 7-10am (for a suggested, at-will donation to the Chapter which helps fund our annual scholarship, to be awarded at the fly-in!), BBQ lunch, and LOTS of taildraggers (sponsored by the Northwest Missouri Chapter of the Antique Airplane Association). The fly-in benefits the Northwest Missouri Chapter of the Antique Airplane Association. We have had over 70 aircraft the past two years!
This year we are also pleased to announce that Black Hills Aerobatics will be providing aerobatics rides in a Pitts during the fly-in. Look for more information on the site later today!

Parallel grass is in great shape for you taildragger folks that prefer it to pavement. Pilots, please keep eyes peeled for Young Eagles flights after 9am, monitor and make proper announcements on the airport CTAF, 122.7.
Hope to see you there!

The July meeting of the Northwest Missouri Antique Airplane Association will be held Sunday, July 21st at the Excelsior Springs Airport (3EX) at 2pm. We’ll be cooking burgers and dogs, and fly-ins are welcome! You need not be a member to attend (but we sure hope you’ll consider joining!). The business meeting will begin once everyone has had a chance to eat. We’ll be discussing final plans and details for the upcoming BBQ on the River Fly-In. I’m sure once the meeting is over that we’ll spend some time buzzing around the pattern if the weather is nice as well. We hope to see you at the airport this Sunday!
Despite a forecast for strong winds developing by 9am gusting to almost 30 knots, the Northwest Missouri AAA Chapter still ended up with 15 airplanes and dozens of cars from Excelsior residents for the June 22nd pancake breakfast – the hangar was packed! Preparations now begin for our big annual fly-in, the 13th Annual BBQ on the River Fly-In to be held August 17th. We hope to make this year bigger and better and while we were thrilled to have 70 airplanes in attendance last year, we are going for 100 this year! Look for updates on this blog page, and full information posted on the fly-ins link.
