Saturday, October 11th will be the next fly-in at the Excelsior Springs Airport (3EX). This event is the 3rd annual Chili Bowl Fly-In and Chili Cookoff, and the general public is welcome and ENCOURAGED to come join the fun! Setup will begin at 12:30 and anyone bringing a pot of chili to compete needs to arrive at this time to set their crockpot up. Judging and eating will commence at 1:00pm (don’t worry, we’ll have non-competition chili as well as burgers and dogs for everyone, as well). The cost per person is $6.00 – whether you are competing or coming to try chili and eat. You will receive a judging slip when you pay for your food, at which time you can begin sampling chili and marking your cards! Yes, you are correct, the fly-in attendees serve as judges!
First place in this event wins a ride in an open-cockpit Boeing Stearman bi-plane – what an opportunity! Prizes for 2nd and 3rd place will be announced here on the website shortly. Proceeds from the fly-in benefit the Northwest Missouri Chapter of the Antique Airplane Association, including our annual Chapter scholarship.
We will also be conducting free flights for kids aged 8-17 beginning at 1pm!
